If you're considering becoming a volunteer, we invite you to contact us to make sure this opportunity is right for you. You'll learn about how you can get involved and use your unique talents and skills to improve the lives of learners. Find out if literacy volunteering is right for you!

Use the Contact Us form or call us at 704.216.8266 to schedule a time to come in for a New Volunteer Information Session. The session will include:

  • an overview of volunteer opportunities with adults and children,
  • available options for training,
  • insights into the ways literacy can bring positive change into our communities, and
  • how to begin volunteering
Questions? Contact us at 704.216.8266 or email us at
Please note: We encourage those who have questions about getting involved, are not sure which training and volunteer options to choose, or would like to talk and visit with staff first, to schedule this session with us. It is for informational purposes only and is not required to become a volunteer. If you feel you already have enough information and would like to begin volunteering, please start here by completing a volunteer application.
There are different procedures for volunteering with adults and youth. If you are interested in volunteering with our 3rd graders at Hurley Elementary, please click here to learn more and to get started.
To get started volunteering with our adult programs, please contact us to schedule an in-person orientation. This will last approximately one hour.
After you've completed your in-person orientation, please click here to access the online training videos to complete your certification.
There is a one-time $25 fee for new tutors to help us cover the cost of materials. Payment can be made by cash, check or online by clicking here.
